Local heroes Commonside play Dewsbury Socialist Club on Saturday 11 February. The band, an indie guitar/rock band, were formed in late 90's by Andy Cartwright and named after the street he lived on in Batley.
In 1999 the band were a hairs breadth from success, with leading lights such as Shaun Ryder of Happy Mondays saying in the national press they had ''nice tunes'' and the Melody Maker calling their songs '' highly infectious'' and ''big hearted.
A song ''Anything/Nothing'' was also used in Brit flick ''Van Boys''.
Problems with their old record company and distribution meant they never quite made the big time,
After a break and change in line up Commonside are back on the music scene gigging new material and in 2009 they've been playing venue's such as ''Cockpit'' ''Leeds Uni'' and ''Escobar" in Leeds and now, a chance for their fans to catch them locally at Dewsbury Socialist Club. Their new single "A Better Day" is available via iTunes.
