New Year/New Start 2012
Featuring...
THE DAUNTLESS ELITE
Usual shouty, singalong punk rock with Yorkshire accents and, like, principles and stuff. Album number 2 is out soon on Bombed Out/Yo Yo Records. Last seen supporting The Charlatans (kinda).
ABOVE THEM
Gruff, melodic anthems from the heart of Yorkshire. Fans of Hot Water Music, Milloy and the like will... aww hell, you already know them. New album on the way soon. Chuffed to have them on board.
CAVES
They played such a blinder last year that we wanted them back. Boy/girl/boy indie-pop-punk with loads of whoaaaaaaahs and hooks that'll get in your head and stay there, probably forever. Released a stormer of an album on Specialist Subject Records recently.
BEDFORD FALLS
Going by this summer's Out of Spite appearance, Cardiff's Bedford Falls are a band who are currently at the top of their game. Brilliant 90's style indie-rock for fans of Buffalo Tom or The Lemonheads.
COAL TRAIN
Chuffed to have these lads make a welcome return to New Year/New Start as 3/4 of them played the very first NYNS back in their This Ain't Vegas days. Remember how ace TAV were? Coal Train are better!
PEACHFUZZ
More Welshness, this time with more of a college-rock meets power-pop sound with Adam's gravelly vocals giving everything that rock and roll, rough around the edges feel. Currently working on album number 3 I hear.
HOMEBREW
A current Dauntless Elite member and two punk rock veterans play political, tongue-in-cheek street punk and continue to prove you're never too old for this nonsense. For fans of Hard Skin, Chaos UK and real punk music. New album out soon on Bombed Out/X-Fist Records.
THE AMISTAD
South Yorkshire(ish) punk rock stalwarts who really don't play Leeds enough. Or anywhere enough. Released a perfect gruff-punk album last year that more people need to put at the top of their "to buy" lists (please). They've recently featured on a split 7" with New Bruises and album number 2 is in the works. Believe.
SATURDAY'S KIDS
The Welsh Sonic Youth? Not quite yet... But they're getting there. Add touches of Mission of Burma and You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead and these lads are onto something special. Previous releases on Bombed Out and Art For Blind with another 7" on the way.
ZAPIAIN
Mid-paced punk-rock 3-piece with huge Jawbreaker/Blueline Medic leanings thanks largely to Chris's pretty awesome voice. Local lads. Released a corker of an album earlier this year.
SLOW SCIENCE
Amazing indie-rock-punk with boy/girl vocals which, if I'd never seen them live, I'd have probably assumed were all the same singer. Remember a band called Hankshaw? They had a male singer that sounded female and were ace. Anyway - I digress. the Slow Science demo has been played more than any other demo I think I've ever owned. They're special.
MATADORS
Leeds super-group featuring members of Buzzkill, The Magnificent, The Horror and that Derby band that Adz used to be in. Their debut album will be available soon and it's nothing short of brilliant. Garagey punk rock for fans of Hot Snakes, The Night Marchers, Obits etc.
THE BROWN HOUND JAMES BAND
Matthew Broadbent and friends will once again open proceedings with some gentle roots rock. Matt's recently finished an album which is nothing short of fantastic (and which we should have some news on soon...) - for fans of The Mountain Goats, Son Volt and maybe a spot of The Weakerthans.
